Our team built a contemporary wine display in the kitchen of the homeowners who dreamed of creating a showpiece of their collection. We incorporated minimalist features into the custom design, perfect for the client’s home. Read on to learn how we designed the walk-in wine room to make it stand out.
Sophisticated Features that Make this Contemporary Wine Display Stand Out
Los Angeles is home to wine lovers who collect wine. We have had clients who sought our help to build a contemporary wine display in their homes. The primary function of a refrigerated wine cellar is to store your wines in an ideal environment. Secondly, a tastefully designed wine room adds aesthetic value to your property when designed by a specialist.
In this project, the homeowners contacted us because they needed help transforming a small space in their kitchen into a contemporary wine display.
By working closely with the interior designer, making a careful assessment, and proper planning, we came up with a modern design tailored to the owner’s needs and blended well with the open floor plan. They wanted clean lines, custom metal wine racks, glass doors, adjustable lighting, and a high-grade wine cooling unit.
They were more focused on the visual appeal of their residential wine cellar than the bottle capacity. Our team submitted a design proposal consisting of racking styles intended for 300 bottles.
Metal Wine Racks Customized for a Contemporary Wine Display
Designing wine racks can be a challenging task without the help of a professional. You have to consider several factors to create a wine storage system that complements the existing décor your home, consists of bottle openings for the different bottle sizes in your collection, and fits the size and shape of your wine room.
In this wine room installation project in Los Angeles, our team consulted with Maiden Steel, a famous fabricator of custom metal wine racks. They made the steel structure of this contemporary wine display.
We designed the racking to accommodate various bottle sizes. It was installed on the wall facing the countertop in the kitchen. The metal wine racks could not be mounted directly on the acrylic board panel because they needed stronger support. We decided to add floor-to-ceiling steel beams across the ends of the light panel and welded the racking onto them.
We installed double-deep wine racks at the center of the racking for 750 ml bottles. The label-forward configuration of the wine racks offers easy perusal of the wines, eliminating the need to flip every bottle to see the wine description.
We also installed shelves on the sides of the modern wine room for storing magnums, including Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays, and Syrah. The middle of the racking consists of a full-length display row that holds the bottles at an angle. This racking style keeps the cork moist to prevent it from getting brittle and causing wine oxidation. The bottom section includes case storage bins, ideal for storing wines in bulk. .
Wine Cellar Lighting System
The wine cellar lighting system is a crucial component of a wine cellar. It can make or break the appearance and functionality of your wine storage facility. At Custom Wine Cellars Los Angeles, we always want the best for our clients. We want their wine cellar to be a stunning showpiece of their wine collection.
We always make sure that your wine room is illuminated with the right lighting system and accessories to achieve the mood they want for their wine cellar. The lighting fixtures were supplied by MP183. We utilized the white acrylic board, which we mounted on the wall. Then, we added the LED lighting system behind the board to create a subtle lighting effect. The brightness can be adjusted conveniently.
A lighting specialist created the LED-backlit panel, which we used to illuminate the middle section. The small light bulbs, which we added on top of each wine rack, shine down in each small section of the metal racking.
Glass Wine Cellar Doors
A contemporary wine display goes well with a glass enclosure. In this project, our team installed custom glass doors. The elegant racking design is visible from the kitchen without any obstructions. The owners and their guests can enjoy the beautiful wine display while eating their favorite meal.
The installation of glass doors requires knowledge of the technical requirements. Remember that your door must be installed by a professional. In every glass wine cellar we build, we use thermally insulated glass panels to prevent wine storage issues caused by moisture build-up. Using ordinary glass will result in fluctuating humidity levels and temperatures. When this happens, condensation will form inside the wine cellar and cause problems.
We also added weather stripping to prevent the cold air from escaping the wine room and heat from entering. Air leakage can affect the function of your wine cooling system, forcing it to work harder and causing its breakdown.
The glass doors have four sections framed in metal, which can be opened separately to allow easy access to the boxes and cases placed at the bottom section of the metal wine racks. To secure our client’s wine collection from children, we installed locks on the bottom of each glass panel.
Wine Cellar Cooling System
The wine cooling unit plays a vital role in the proper preservation of the wines. We installed an RMD wine refrigeration unit to achieve a stable environment.
Since it is a ducted split wine cooling system, we placed the condenser (the noisier component) in the laundry room on the opposite side of the wine cellar. We inserted the return and supply ducts on the ceiling and concealed them in a stylish grill cover for a seamless look. The housing is removable to make it more accessible during maintenance, repairs, and checkups.
